Scope and content
Annual reports are published in accordance with the provision of article V. 2(f) of the Convention for the establishment of a European Organization for Nuclear Research. They give an account of CERN activities by year. From 1955 to 1984, the annual reports comprised only one volume including lists of publications and reports of activities in the divisions in French and English. From 1985 to 1990, the reports appeared in a new format with the aim of increasing the readability of some of the most important information and, at the same time, of reducing the production costs. Annual reports comprised three volumes. Volume 1 of the report, entitled "CERN ...", selects highlights from the year and presents them in a non-technical style with ample illustration. This volume is produced in English and in French. Volume 2, entitled "Report of Activities in the Divisions" gives a detailed description of the year's work in technical language and with few illustrations. This volume is produced in English and in French in limited quantities, available on request. Volume 3, entitled "List of Publications", groups all the known publications coming from the research at CERN during the year. This volume is produced in a single language version in a limited quantity, available on request. From 1991, Volume 2, "Report of Activities in the Divisions" was only produced in English.
